Walkin’ fool

So that outage I was complaining about started on Monday… the one that involved a closed bridge and three weeks of Our Hero biking to work? Yeah. About that biking thing…
See, after the exciting manly weekend, I couldn’t drag my lazy ass out of bed early enough to bike in on Monday, so I took the train as far as it would go and walked from the Rose Garden Arena (home of 2010 NBA champion Portland Trailblazers) to the office.
Turns out that, at least when the weather’s nice, it ain’t a bad walk. I walked into my office only 10-15 minutes later than I might usually stumble in and got a little bit of exercise, too. Google tells me it’s only about 1.5 miles, and who am I to argue with our Googlian overlords?
Pretty nice views en route, too. Only had the little point-and-shoot on me, but the shots could be worse (clicky for larger versions). For instance, this is the Steel Bridge, the bastard that’s closed for the next few weeks that the train usually crosses to bring suckers like me into downtown Portland:
Portland’s Steel Bridge. When 96 years old you reach, look as good you will not.
So I pretty much just had to walk across this thing, then head down the waterfront for a mile or so. Mine is the square, brick building on the far left:
Waterfront Park, as seen from the east side of the Willamette River.
And this is just a building I see on my way to the train in the afternoons:
I’m shallow and like pretty things.
I like the facade. Lot of similar buildings in the downtown area getting face lifts right now. Purty.
One of the nicest things about working where I do is that, in my hour lunch break, I can walk pretty much anywhere in the downtown area and still have time to scarf down a pint or two street vendor burrito before anybody thinks I’m late.
